The Ups and the Downs of Invisalign

What makes adults and teens discouraged to start working on a perfect smile?

Wearing braces! This is what draws people to using an appliance like Invisalign. Invisalign does have its draw-backs. You have you wear a clear aligner nearing 24 hours a day, but the appeal is that invisalign can be removed for cleaning, eating, public speaking etc. . . So how do you make a decision?

Doctor Scanlan is a big advocate for Invisalign, but also aware of the clinical down sides. So here is the scoop. Invisalign is a series of clear aligners that slowly move your teeth into the proper position. The down side? The aligners are not predictable all the time. In fact, a recent article published in the American Journal of Orthodontics concluded that Invisalign delivers its reported results only 40% of the time. This means that 3 out of 5 times the result your Orthodontists wanted cannot be achieved! So why does Dr. Scanlan still think Invisalign is a great tool? What is the alternative? No treatment? Braces? How about Invisalign for the first part of your treatment and completing your treatment in braces? This means a shorter duration of wearing braces which is something to smile about.

How do we know what decision is right?

Over the next few weeks Dr. Scanlan will be sharing his thoughts on Invisalign and explaining his philosophy of Invisalign first followed by a short course of braces using Suresmile to complete your perfect smile.

Doctor Scanlan will answer the questions asked. Feel free to post a question on TS Orthodontic's Facebook or Twitter.

Stay tuned......
