How to pay less in online auction sites?

Once upon a time (yes, it was so long ago), people visited auction houses to buy and sell antiques only. I believe when online auction sites were launched, sellers placed used goods only that they thought were valuable just because they are old.

When these online auction sites allowed people to sell new goods, the transformation of online auction sites was very quick and suddenly people thronged them.

The next major change introduced in online auction sites was sellers can fix up a price for their goods and buyers can pay up without bidding. But the sellers always have to pay a listing fee.

Now, that is no more an issue with the advent of free online auctions where the listing expenditure was taken care of by the advertisers on free online auction websites.

This paved way for lesser prices for the same items that was put up for sale in other auction sites where the sellers have to add the listing fee also in their goods’ price.

I used to visit webstore.com which is a free online auction house, because of the range of goods is plenty there in every category. Try them once and you will return to them again.

Pre-Retreat Question

I'm in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, helping out on an 8-day silent retreat.  Not sure I'll be posting much still for another week or two.

But -- a strange question that came to me as I took a shower at my parents' house over the weekend:  If they can make shampoo that doesn't make your eyes burn -- like the Johnson's & Johnson's my parents keep for when their grandchildren come -- if they can make shampoo like that, why in God's name don't they make all shampoo like that?

Deep thoughts...

Homebush Bay brickpit (Theme Day: Feet)

The elevated Brickpit Ring Walkway at Homebush Bay provides a great view of the old brickpit which is now a pond. I had trouble finding something in Sydney for this theme day but thought a walkway is the closest thing to feet that I could find.

Haslams Creek

Two views of Haslams Creek which runs between the suburbs of Homebush Bay and Newington. These photos were taken before all the rain we have had recently when the grass looked really dry and brown.

The shame of Australia.

Look at our Government focusing on instructing shop owners not to sell cigarettes when their attention is drawn to the plight of Indian students in Australia.

Indian students are screaming for help and the world is watching along with Aussie police officers. This curry bashing is shame of Australia.

What we are going to do help our students? Is the Indian students community aware of their compatriots' miseries in down under? The spirit of students and their compassionate attitude towards fellow students used to be very strong during my student days.

Where it has gone?

Do you know that the Aussie police officer Scott Mahony advised the Indian students not to speak in their native language publicly and not to carry iPods and laptops that are obviously signs of wealth and target of muggers?

Oh my God! This is atrocious however practical it may be.

This posted by my husband Badri who is terribly upset over the ugly incidents in Sydney.

An entire cheese plate all for me! Oh my lord! I LOVE cheese. It is hard to tell, but there are 5 different kinds of cheeses here. Thank you Kent!

Find business, health, life insurance quotes for free.

Lazy people and those who don’t mind throwing away a few extra dollars in whatever they buy, will realize only very lately how much money they could saved in auto and health insurance if they had bothered to get free insurance quotes from the top insurance service providers and compared them and then paid up.

All it takes is a few minutes of your valuable time to get free life, auto and health insurance quotes just by answering a few questions. Invariably, you will get free insurance quotes from a nationwide database comprised of thousands of insurance providers.

If you can’t spare even a few minutes that could help you save substantial money every year, then you are not even fit to run a family or head a team in your office.

Yes, I have voiced my strong opinion with the sincere hope that it will create the desired effect.

Homegrown Strawberries!

We still have a great supply of homegrown strawberries at Eckert's in Belleville. Whether you want to pick your own or purchase them already picked from the Country Store, the berries are ripe, sweet and ready to eat!

We plan to have pick your own strawberries open through the weekend, but we always recommend that you call our Harvest Hotline before you come so you have the most up-to-date picking information.

Concord, Hen and Chicken Bay

A cloudy sky over the inner west suburb of Concord, looking across Hen and Chicken Bay.
You can see the Bayview Park wharf on the shore and the Canadian monument in Bayview Park, that I featured over the last two days. The old Bushells Tea factory and new apartment developments can be seen in the background.

Ahh... Wedgewood Blue, I Love You!

I have been looking hard for drapes, but I'm just not a huge fan of the flimsly Bed, Bath & Beyond or Pier 1 panels (sorry if you have them). Custom made drapes are always fuller, longer and the best part is that no one else has them! I've debated trying to do drapes "Nester" style, which I probably will by adding to these drapes, but really, you just can't beat CHEAP, clean, custom drapes.
The swatch: Waverly Country Life Wedgewood Toile
Sooo...... Here are the drapes I bought in Dallas this weekend. Sorry for the lame picture, I haven't actually hung them in my house yet. This pic was taken in the CONSIGNMENT store with my iPhone. Dallas is THE place to consignment shop. Check out this deal: 4 panels, 84 inches long (7 ft), 144 inches wide (12 ft), pleated, weighted at the bottom, and lined with black out/sunblock panels. This fabric is $20.00 a yard on ebay, so if you do the math, I would have spent at least $400.00 (I think I actually underestimated by at least $100 dollars - I should have called my mom - does anyone know how to really calculate fabric costs?) Then another $100.00 on the sunblock liners and $100.00 to have them custom made. We're at $600.00 total. These are LOW estamites people. I spent $25 a panel! Go me! I don't actually NEED 4 panels for my room, but I'm going use one panel to make an upholstered headboard out of a door and some throw pillows. That leaves with a huge extra panel that I just might need when we move. Fabulous pictures to come......
My mom came to Little Rock yesterday for a doctor's appointment, so we had lunch. It was fun to take my lunch break with my Mom!

Canada Bay monument

This monument in Concord honours a historic link between Australia and Canada. Following the Lower Canada Rebellion of 1837 to 1838, two Irish and 56 French Canadian rebels were deported to Australia and imprisoned at the Longbottom Stockade. The area around here bears a reminder of this history with the names Canada Bay, France Bay and Exile Bay.

Shopping spree with Papa and Mama!!

From time immemorial, this category of homo sapiens are very much known to accuse women- be it mother/sister/wife for ‘excessive’ shopping. This generously common species are called ‘Men’. Be it a saree, a plastic container, soap dish, or footwear, that we choose to buy, often they mutter, that it is the 65,687th one added to existing ones (non-existent, of course)at home. whatever. I have had this experience of hunting for Papa/hubby at shopping malls/exhibitions, as they just disappear in a fraction of a second to..I don’t know where.

Act I Scene I:
Papa is accompanied by me as he goes to the city to fulfill his lifetime obligation of paying bills on a pleasant Saturday morning. As we speed across Statue Junction,

Me: Papa there is a Wills Lifestyle showroom near Raymonds…I have a purchase there.
Papa: * Acting as if he is lost in thoughts*
Me: (Loudly, this time, the windows almost vibrating) I need to go to Wills Lifestyle.
If he refuses to change the expression on his face, the physical torture of shaking, poking, and other irritating activities are started and gradually ends after we’ve crossed the store.
Me: Where is that shop? It was somewhere here..
Papa: Oh ! I forgot to tell you. They closed down last week.
Me:$&&*(*() Aaargh!!

Act I Scene II. (True incident)
One fine morning I succeeded in pulling Papa to Palayam, and he walks along, hesitantly. All along, I am subjected to stories of how his great grandmother and her mother (he has not seen either of them) were so humble and undemanding , and would never go out of the house unless it is to feed the cows and would wear only what their husbands bought for them. I nod my head with an expression of sarcastic appreciation,as if he was talking about Indus Valley Civilization.
Suddenly one of my school friends appeared as if from nowhere and shrieked ‘Anitaaaa’ and everyone turned around to look at us, terrified . I introduce Papa to her, and she released me in around 10 minutes, from the prangs of hot and spicy 'girl talk' which comprised of common exclamatory statements like.. ‘who? Is it? When? She got married? Oh he cheated on her? She eloped ‘again’?‘ and lots of other hoo-haaa-ing.
* Meanwhile,Papa is in a selectively deaf mode now*

Back home, in the kitchen:
Papa: We met Anu’s friend at Palayam today.
Mummy: mmm.
Papa: And that girl asked Anu where she was going with her "brother".
Mummy: GRRR (Eyes popped out)
Papa disappears into thin air.

Act I Scene III

Mummy and me are going to Parthas. Papa is as usual, sulking and hesitating as soon as he hears ‘Parthas’. For him, “Parthas’ means ‘pestilence’ .However, we are conveniently dropped right at the entrance of the showroom and Papa promises ‘to park the car’ and would be ‘right back’.( He must have surely heaved a sigh of relief when Mummy and me got down).
Now, ‘To park the car’ means he is going to find the parking lot atleast 2 km away from parthas and we would finally have to hire an auto to get there. ‘Right back’ is the time starting from the drive from Parthas to parking lot, parking, getting out, smoking an average of 6 cigarettes, going to the nearby tea shop, getting back into the car, reading some 20 pages of Reader’s Digest, until a call from me squealing from Parthas is received.

Act I, Scene IV.
Go to style plus with Papa, and he disappears right at the entrance area itself ,and I would finally have to hunt for him.

If you find a cloud of smoke behind the car, he is there.
If you don’t find him there, he is at the lounge with four year olds, and would be frantically searching whether he has left out any piece of news in ‘The Hindu’, or if there is anything different from the one that we get at home.
If you still don’t find him, you will find him at the Books section, seriously checking the prizes of Pulitzer prize winning books. *eeks*
The last place where you can find him, would be, the Music and DVD section wherein he would be checking out on ‘Beatles’ and ‘Jim Reeves’ DVDs. :D

He he.. that was a series of shopping episodes put together… just thought of documenting them as I was gliding through those sweet memories of childhood.. above all that, Papa and Mummy were , and are the best people to be with. I guess not many of you would have had your mothers tying friendship bands for you!! Yes believe it or not, my Mummy used 2 tie friendship band for me and my sister on Friendship Day.Yes, they know all about my friends, most of the secrets we usually discuss about at school, jokes which they dont find so funny, but still listens not to let me down...Often they end up chatting to my friends when they call, and I'm not home...! They were strict parents when they had to be, and were our best friends (still are) after we grew up! I still prefer mummy and Papa along when we go shopping/picnic/exhibition/beach/restaurant…anywhere and everywhere…!! Love you n miss u tons….!!! Mwah!!

Friendship....

During this time in my life this is what seems to be lacking big time. And at the same time connections with other women right now is definitely what I need. For mentoring and support, relationships with other women are an important part of our journey.

I am very lacking with friendship in real life. I feel very isolated and alone most of the time even in group settings. I am trying to reach out but there is only so much I can do. I am constantly praying for something to change. For things to be pointed out to me and for someone to come in my life. I hear of so many wonderful things going on around me but yet they are around me and do not include me. It feels as though I am not welcome to them because when I do attend I feel like an outsider looking in and more times than not leave half way through in tears or in tears as I leave and drive home alone.

I am going to give this another go this week. Thursday night. Please pray for me!

yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility,
gentleness and patience." Colossians 3:12

Bollywood Bubly Actress Preity Zinta Wallpaper Gallery

Preity Zinta born January 31, 1975 is an Indian film actress. She has appeared in Hindi films of Bollywood, as well as Telugu, Punjabi and English language films. After graduating with a degree in criminal psychology, Zinta made her acting debut in Dil Se in 1998 followed by a role in Soldier the same year. These performances earned her a Filmfare Best Female Debut Award, and she was later recognised for her role as a teenage single mother in Kya Kehna (2000). She subsequently played a variety of character types; her film roles along with her screen persona contributed to a change in the concept of a Hindi film heroine.

Zinta received her first Filmfare Best Actress Award in 2003 for her performance in the drama Kal Ho Naa Ho. She went on to play the lead female role in two consecutive annual top-grossing films in India: the science fiction film Koi... Mil Gaya, her biggest commercial success, and the star-crossed romance Veer-Zaara, which earned her critical acclaim. She was later noted for her portrayal of independent, modern Indian women in Salaam Namaste and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, top-grossing productions in overseas markets. These accomplishments have established her as a leading actress of Hindi cinema. Her first international film role was in the Canadian film Heaven on Earth, for which she was awarded the Best Actress (Silver Hugo) award at the 2008 Chicago International Film Festival.

In addition to movie acting, Zinta has written a series of columns for BBC News Online South Asia, is a regular stage performer, and along with boyfriend Ness Wadia she is a co-owner of the Indian Premier League cricket team Kings XI Punjab. She is known in the Indian media for publicly speaking her mind and openly expressing her opinions, occasionally sparking controversy. These controversies include her being the only witness not to retract in court her earlier statements against the Indian mafia during the 2003 Bharat Shah case, for which she was awarded the Godfrey Phillips National Bravery Award.
