A Tantillo Tradition: Honey Crisp Apple Crisp

If anyone knows the chaos that goes along with sending the kids back to school, it's my sister, Jill Eckert Tantillo. Jill is the proud mother of four children, ranging in age from 3 to 10 years old. Despite the schedule changes, earlier bedtimes and homework, Jill still manages to find time to keep up a family tradition she started a few years back:

Even though I was raised on an apple farm and now work there myself, I realized that I had yet to create a tradition of taking my own family apple picking. It was after this, that I decided that the first of the season Honey Crisp apples allowed me the perfect opportunity. Now every late August, I load up the kids to go apple picking. Sure, it's crazy trying to find everyone a matching pair of shoes and get them all safely secured in the van, but it is well worth the effort when I see their smiling faces riding the wagon out to orchard just as I did as a girl. I wait patiently as the kids pluck the apples from the tree until our bag is nearly full.

Oh no, the excitement doesn't even begin to end there. Later that evening, the family gathers in the kitchen to make our traditional "back to school" dessert: Honey Crisp Apple Crisp. Dessert isn't the only thing served, but rather a reminder of no matter how hectic life gets, we still must set time aside to create everlasting memories!

Tough time with Religare.

Oh, not again but here it is again I am having a tough time with another Indian e-commerce website.

I have been an Internet entrepreneur since 1998. I have dealt with hundreds of e-commerce websites and and never faced any problem but for Indian based websites.

Right now, I am experiencing an harrowing time with religareonline.com.

I keep trying to get into the trading screen but the server simply seem to have vanished. The response I see in my monitor, "Server not responding'.

I tried with password given, generated a new password but the screen remains adamantly silent after I keyed in my log in details. It neither says the password is accepted nor says 'wrong password.

Suddenly I see that frustrating message, , 'Server not responding'. My money is simply lying idle with Religare Securities and I don't know whether I will get some efficient technical help from them to resolve the issue.

It is not everyday that a new recreational vehicle (rv) is being sold. They are pricey and its maintenance will create a big hole in your wallet even if you have a full rv warranty.

Bicentennial Park, Trelliage Tower

The Treillage Tower is located at the highest point of Bicentennial Park at Homebush Bay. The tower sits at one end of an avenue of plane trees, with a fountain at the other end. It is a 3 storey, 17 metre high viewing tower constructed with trellis. Treillage is a French word for lattice, which was commonly used in gardens in the 16th century. The tower provides great views of Bicenttennial Park, Homebush Bay, Parramatta River and the Sydney city skyline, in the distance.

Cleaning House

When you visit the library you will no doubt notice a large amount of non-fiction books for sale. In an effort to make our non-fiction collection more efficient and hopefully increase its usage, we are combining the juvenile non-fiction collection with the adult non-fiction collection. As part of the process I am looking at each book to determine its value to the library and the community. Because we are limited on space it is important that we maintain a collection that is relevant and timely. While there are always exceptions, the following guidelines are used in determining whether or not a book should be withdrawn:

• Has the book been checked out in the past 10 years?
• Is the content of the book accurate and up-to-date?
• Is the book in good general condition?
  

At this time we invite the public to visit the library and browse through the many books that have recently been withdrawn from our collection. Maybe there is one you would like to add to your own personal library. Hardback books are 25 cents a piece and paperback are 10 cents apiece. You can hardly find a better bargain! The money will be used to support the operations of the library.

A call from happiness to despair..

That call came all of a sudden. I was balancing a plate of food, an overstuffed purse, and a mobile in my hands. The mobile hadn’t lost its ability to display the incoming number, and I was thankful to the fossil (read: mobile) for that. I kept the plate amidst a gang of cheerful friends, pressed the ‘answer’ button (which God willingly hadn’t been damaged yet) and moved apart.

It was an official call. The caller was melancholy. In another five minutes, it all happened. My performance ratings for the fiscal year were not even close to my expectations. My spirits faced a mighty downfall. My smiles collapsed to give room to expressions of indifference and frustration. I was facing away from my friends, and I could still hear them laughing. I stared through windows into space. The guy had already disconnected the call, but I was pretending to be on call. My eyes welled up. I am not an over ambitious techie who expects a double promotion with an onsite project in these times of recession. The right to desire the minimum is still mine. The passion and loyalty behind it is genuine and as real as life. I felt like being dropped unfeelingly from the top of a mountain into bare vacuum.

Holding the mobile closer to my ear, I rubbed off that tear with my dupatta. I was still on pretending mode. I was told that the guy who did my ratings had left. There weren’t officially anyone to help me, even though there would always be peers to join in my disastrous performance ratings and console me. My eyes were still fixed on nowhere. The urge to go back and join them at lunch was declining by the minute. If I go back now, I knew that my face would declare aloud the frustration which I do not prefer to disclose. It would spoil the only brief camaraderie which we all enjoy during lunch hours. I dint want to put the fly in the pudding.

I grabbed up some fake expressions, painted them beautifully on my face, and walked back merrily to the bunch of friends who never stopped eating. I talked and laughed as normally as I would always do, and left the cafeteria gradually, showing no signs of the fast depleting courage.
Back in my den, I leaned back and got lost in thoughts. I called up my sister and talked the matter out. Its almost out of my head now. But there are traces.

These ratings sure left a mark of despair,din't they? Not to let history repeat itself, is still in my ever optimistic hands. Safe until the next fiscal year.

Bicentennial Park, Peace monument

The Peace Monument is a contemporary sculpture in Bicentennial Park at Homebush Bay. It was commissioned to celebrate the International Year of Peace in 1996. The layout is based on a complex interplay involving the Earth’s axis and the trajectories followed by the planets in our Solar System. It illustrates what it might be like to be out in space looking back at earth to remind us of our fragile place in the solar system. Because we don't feel or see the earth turning, we are rarely conscious that we live on a sphere constantly spinning through space. Throughout history, bells have been rung to celebrate the achievement of peace. There are three bells here for The Earth, The Moon and Space.

It Is Well

I broach the deep subject of well water, and the need to raise it up from the grasp of gravity. During the last decade my property has become increasingly parched. The water table has dropped, and my well cannot produce the flow to green up my acre. The installation of a holding tank, years back, only delayed the dehydration. When, this August, the water dribbled into the tank as slow as slobber I knew it was time to dig deeper for the precious liquid.

Thus began the drain of our precious savings. We hired men to drill a 300 foot cylinder of space into the earth’s crust beside our driveway. Now I need to dangle the submersible pump in the abyss to draw the slurpy from the depths.

I’m hoping for a happy ending to my water woes. But deeper meanings can be plumbed here. I am reminded of the story of Jesus beside a deep well in the dry region of Samaria. It was here that Christ told a promiscuous woman about the spiritual water of the Holy Spirit. He said, ”Whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

In today’s culture of easy belief and casual Christianity, I suspect that many souls continue to thirst. Multitudes have crowded around the dry fountain of man-centered, seeker-friendly, religion, instead of being filled by the power and presence of Almighty God. Playing church does not a Christian make. Being chosen by God, in Christ, before the foundation of the world (Eph 1:4) to be born again of water and the Spirit (Jn 3:5) does.

Is there living water in your life?

I Did It...

I finally bought a starting piece for my bedroom. The most important piece. Online. Oh I am so nervous! I can't even think about it! I'm not sure why, but yesterday shipping was going to be $90 and today it was $14.50. I can live with that! I read all the reviews on ten different websites, looked at a million pictures and finally decided on this light blue, silk tufted headboard:

Imagine lots of white sheets, duvet, pillows, and then one or two color accents. It is gorgeous in my head, we will see what it turns out like in real life. The main thing I am nervous about is the quality. I will be fine with the color as long as it shows up in some shade of light blue.

After a lot research, collecting paint samples and fabric, tearing pages out of magazines, and constantly biting my fingernails, I think I know what I want. Here is a little bit of my inspiration: I need a soft abstract art piece, any suggestions on where to buy one? See the brown tufted headboard - there is a huge contrast with the white bedding. I LOVE mirrored furniture.

Black & white photo collages; gray + white + blue color scheme; more tufted headboards - I'm hoping mine shows up similiar to this custom, designer piece!; And again, the color contrast with a splash of color and lots of white.

More inspiration. I have an empty corner that I would love to fill with a mirrored piece of furniture and a white tufted chair to keep with the headboard's uphostery design.

I'm crossing my fingers and getting to work!
