Port Botany, Sydney Ports Corporation

 The Sydney Ports Corporation is located in the eastern suburb of Port Botany, on the shore of Botany Bay. The facilities at Port Botany consist of two container terminals with six container vessel berths and a bulk liquids berth complemented by container support businesses, bulk liquid berth storage facilities and private berths at Kurnell.

Petersham, shops

These two heritage buildings in Victorian styles are located on Parramatta Road, in the inner west suburb of Petersham, bordering Leichhardt. Both Brighton Hall and the building with the iron lacework balcony and corrugated bullnose awning have been restored and are now used as commercial space. Anyone that is familiar with Parramatta Road would know how lucky I was to find a rare quiet moment to take this shot unobstructed by traffic and only one parked van out the front.

Kogarah, workshop

This mechanic's workshop at Kogarah suffered a collapse last Saturday. The excavation work at the front of the building by the power company, following three weeks of rain, resulted in the foundations giving way. It wasn't a particularly remarkable building but the old shopfront with its eyecatching colours made it a landmark on the Princess Highway. There was traffic chaos when the highway had to be shut down so workmen could demolish the shopfont and stabilise the rest of the building.

Kogarah, shop and house

Many of the old houses and shops in the southern suburb of Kogarah have been demolished in recent years to make way for more higher density developments such as blocks of flats, commercial and office space or the expanding hospitals and schools in this area. Luckily, on the Princes Highway, this shop and residence with a bit of character has survived. It currently houses Monetarium, a dealer in rare coins and banknotes.

Ramsgate Beach, supermarket at Easter

In an effort to find a photo around Sydney with an Easter theme, I noticed that people in Australia make such an effort to decorate everything for Christmas but barely do anything for Easter. The best I could find is this over the top commercial attempt to convince everyone that the hunt for Easter value is over at their supermarket at Ramsgate Beach. I thought the giant Easter egg on the roof might be good for skywach too.

The Rocks, Earth Hour

Earth Hour is an annual event to to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change. Participants are asked to support the cause by switching off lights and electrical equipment for one hour at 8.30pm on the last Saturday of March. Earth Hour started in Sydney in 2007 with approximately 2.2 million people and 2,100 businesses taking part. In 2008, Earth Hour involved 370 cities and towns around the world, including Chicago, Toronto, Copenhagen, Dublin, Atlanta and Bangkok. In 2009, Earth Hour went global with millions of people in over 4,000 towns and municipalities in 88 countries taking part. It also involved landmarks across the world switching their lights off from the Opera House in Sydney to the Eiffel Tower in Paris to Times Square in New York. Tonight, the diners at this restaurant at the The Rocks will enjoy their dinner by candlelight, but this decorative illuminated tree will have its lights switched off.

Pyrmont, warehouse

The inner west suburb of Pyrmont was once an industrial waterfront with wharves, factories and warehouses. In recent years many of the old structures have been redeveloped into residential and commercial complexes. This old warehouse at Wharf 17 of Jones Bay Wharf at Pyrmont has been converted into office space. It is currently the Sydney headquarters for the Seven Network, one of Australia's three major commercial television networks. Sydney Tower and the city skyline can be seen in the background, located on the opposite side of Darling Harbour.

Warwick Farm, bridge replica

 This impressive replica of the Sydney Harbour Bridge is located at the entrance of a car dealership in the southwestern suburb of Warwick Farm. This view is from inside the dealership looking out towards the Hume Highway. I seem to remember that this replica was built for some sort of exhibition many years ago and was going to be scrapped before it was bought and installed here by the car dealer to attract customers but I can't seem to find any information on the specifics. Chullora recycling centre (Theme Day: Big)

This big bicycle located at the front entrance of the Waste and Recycling Centre, in the western suburb of Chullora, is made of recycled bits and pieces. That's cycling and recycling. The Bicycle is a sculpture built by Jonh Ridley, Andy Lugiz and Phillip Becker

Pyrmont, Star City Casino

When the Star City Casino first opened in Sydney in 1995, as Sydney's only legal casino, it operated out of one of old wharves at Pyrmont. Later, it relocated to this purpose-built facility that features the casino, a hotel, theatre, nightclubs, bars, restaurants and a shopping arcade.

St Peters, workshop

This curiously shaped building on the Princes Highway at St Peters was once a garage and is currently used by an auto electrician.
