Sydney Harbour Bridge, Greenhouse

'Greenhouse by Joost' was a temporary eco-friendly cafe with spectacular views installed on the shore at Campbells Cove in The Rocks. The building was created by artist Joost Bakker and built using recycled materials. Three old shipping containers made up one of the walls and were decorated with a mural featuring butterflies and children playing. This view is from the Overseas Passenger Terminal towards the Harbour Bridge. The cafe closed this week after eight successful weeks and since it was quite popular there are plans to rebuild it in a permanent location. Circular Quay, Sydney Harbour Bridge

The lights reflected here across Circular Quay and Sydney Harbour were from the Overseas Passenger Terminal to Campbells Cove at The Rocks, the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Luna Park at Milsons Point. This shot was taken during one of the Fire Water performances at the The Rocks which was part of the Vivid Sydney festival, so there was more illumination than usual at the Overseas Passenger Terminal and around Campbells Cove at The Rocks.

Treasury Building, Macquarie Street

The old Treasury Building in Macquarie Street has been incorporated into the Hotel InterContinental Sydney. The original sandstone building designed by Walter Liberty Vernon was built in 1896 and the hotel tower was built in 1984. The building has used for the former Colonial Secretary General and then for the New South Wales Premier’s Office. I took this photo during the recent Vivid Sydney festival which featured light projections on many buildings in Macquarie Street. The simple lighting on the facade of this heritage building also looks impressive to me.

The underside of this bridge and trees along Macquarie Street were lit up with colourful lights during the Vivid Sydney festival, which brightened up the night sky. This is my final look at the light installations and light projections on show at the festival this year.

Conservatorium of Music, Vivid Sydney, Macquarie Visions

The Sydney Conservatorium of Music on Conservatorium Road in front of the Royal Botanic Gardens featured light projections as part of Macquarie Visions for this year's Vivid Sydney Festival. The theme of this display was Pastimes, reflecting on the broader cultural and social life which Governor Lachlan Macquarie and his wife Elizabeth Macquarie created for Sydney. The Macquaries began a new era in Australian popular culture by instigating annual fairs and workers public holidays for commemoration, hosting balls, founding parks, gardens, sports fields and the first horse race. Many of these social activities and pastimes are still enjoyed in Sydney today along with many more.

Mint Museum, Vivid Sydney

Sydney Mint Museum on Macquarie Street featured light projections as part of Macquarie Visions for this year's Vivid Sydney Festival. The theme of the display was Common Wealth, which looked at the economic and natural wealth that has been discovered, exploited and developed in Australia since the early accomplishments of Governor Lachlan Macquarie.

State Library, Vivid Sydney, Macquarie Visions

The State Library of New South Wales on Macquarie Street featured light projections as part of Macquarie Visions at this year's Vivid Sydney Festival. The theme of the display was Words On The Street, featuring documents and words that showcase Australia and the people from 1810. The library is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year and is home to many Macquarie items and artefacts.

Opera House, Vivid Sydney, Lighting The Sails

Lighting the Sails is a work of art which involves the illumination of the sails of the Sydney Opera House for the Vivid Sydney festival. The second annual Vivid Sydney festival, which ran from 27th May to 21st June, is a festival of light, music and ideas.

Opera House, Vivid Sydney, Lighting The Sails (Theme Day: Reflections)

Lighting the Sails is the name of this spectacular illumination of the Sydney Opera House which provided brilliant reflections on Sydney Harbour. It was part of Vivid Sydney, a festival of light, music and ideas which ran from 27th May to 21st June. This is the second year that the city has held the festival that features large-scale light installations and projections, music performances and creative ideas summits.
