Brighton-Le-Sands

This view from Lady Robinsons Beach in the southern suburb of Brighton-Le-Sands is dominated by the row of Norfolk Island Pines in Cook Park. The Novotel Hotel on The Grand Parade dominates the skyline in the suburb from other angles. I've featured many photos from around this area but usually looking out towards Botany Bay. This time I'm showing the view back from the bay. If you look closely in the park, on the left, you can see the sculpture of an olympian that I use as my avatar or profile photo.

Brighton-Le-Sands, boardwalk and pavilion

This boardwalk beside the beach at Botany Bay, is in the southern suburb of Brighton-Le-Sands. It was a beautiful day for a walk or a bike ride along the bay, to take advantage of the blue sky. Le Sands Pavilion contains restaurants, a kiosk cafe and the bathers pavilion.Click here to view all participants of Skywatch Friday

Botany Bay, rainbow

We've had a had a lot of grey skies and spring showers over the last week. On Friday afternoon, I noticed this amazing rainbow in the sky and followed it to Botany Bay. By the time I was out of my car, the storm clouds started gathering again and the rainbow had lost some of its brilliance but I managed a couple of snaps before it disappeared.

Botany Bay coastal patrol

This coastal patrol boat was moored in Botany Bay, just off the beach at Brighton-Le-Sands. In the background, a plane is coming in to land on the Sydney Airport runway that extends into the bay and a ship that uses the port facilities at Port Botany can be seen between the heads.

Brighton-Le-Sands, Bicentennial Monument

The Bicentennial Monument at Brighton-Le-Sands stands in Cook Park, on the foreshore of Botany Bay. Erected in 1988, it commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet in Botany Bay in 1788, the first Europeans settlers in Australia. The names of all those new arrivals are engraved on this monument flanked by a couple of old cannons.

Brighton-Le-Sands, statue

This statue stands in Cook Park,on the shore of Botany Bay, in the southern suburb of Brighton-Le-Sands. This contemporary statue is of Spyros Louis, a Greek gold medallist and winner of the first marathon of the modern Olympic Games in 1896 . It was sculpted by Pavlos Kougioumtzis. Brighton-Le-Sands is a centre of the Greek community in Sydney and features many Greek businesses and restaurants.
