Sandringham Baths are located on the shore of Botany Bay, in the southern suburb of Sandringham. The weather has started to cool now that Autumn has arrived and there weren't any swimmers here late in the afternoon as this seagull kept watch. This area had been known as Stripper's Point in the 1830s, from the local occupation of tree-felling and bark-stripping. Luckily the name was changed to Sandringham by William Rust, an ardent royalist who built the Prince of Wales Hotel here in the 1870s to honour Edward VII, the Prince of Wales, who in 1872 was also building a royal residence at Sandringham, in Norfolk, England.
Bronte Baths are located just south of Bronte Beach on Nelson Bay, in the eastern suburb of Bronte. They are also known as the Bronte Beach Baths or the Bond Ocean Pool after lifesaving pioneer and swimming teacher, Major John Bond.
This view of the Oatley Park Baths and the Georges River is from Sandy Beach on Oatley Bay. The baths were originally constructed in 1909 and are still utilised by the Oatley Amateur Swimming Club which was established in 1927. The pontoon is an ideal resting spot in the middle of the netted area. In the distance, a train crosses the Como Bridge linking the southern suburbs of Oatley and Como.
Redleaf Pool is an enclosed swimming area on Sydney Harbour, in the eastern suburb of Double Bay. There are two pontoons (left) floating in the middle of the pool that are a perfect spot for swimmers to rest and enjoy the sun. Last weekend we had above average Autumn temperatures in Sydney, so the pool attracted quite a few swimmers but not quite the crowd it can usually attract in Summer. The kiosk and cafe behind the sandy beach (right) provide glorious views over Blackburn Cove, Point Piper and Sydney Harbour. The pool is named after the Redleaf estate, which was owned by William Busby, a pastoralist and politician in the 1800s.

The Bondi Icebergs Swimming Club is located above the swimming pools at the southern end of Bondi Beach. The Bondi Icebergs Winter Swimming Club was founded in 1929 by a group of committed local Bondi lifesavers who wanted to to maintain their fitness during the winter months. The club moved from a tin shed to new premises in 1960. The current building which opened in 2002 is the only licensed winter swimming club in the world and features bars and restaurants.
This doorway (top) with a breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean is located in Dunningham Park at Dolphin Point, in the eastern suburb of Coogee. It leads to the Giles Baths which are rock pools (bottom) located down the stairs, near Coogee Beach. The doorway was part of the Giles Baths complex that included a gym, hot sea baths and a private sunbaking area. The portico was preserved when the building was demolished in 2000.
