Cronulla, Wanda Beach

The walkway leads down to Wanda Beach, the northernmost patrolled beach of the southern suburb of Cronulla. Vegetation has been grown behind the beach to protect the sand dunes and the fences prevent beachgoers from damaging them.

This lifesaver's tower located near the Elouera Surf Lifesaving Club, sits behind Elouera Beach at Cronulla and provides an optimum view of swimmers and surfers in the ocean.

Cronulla, Elouera Beach

Elouera is one of the surf beaches along Bate Bay, in the southern suburb of Cronulla. The lifesavers patrol the beach from a tent on the beach between the red and yellow flags, a short distance from the lifesaver's tower and club. The lifesavers use yellow surfboards and life preservers to rescue swimmers or surfers from the ocean.

Cronulla, Shelley Beach

Shelly Beach is the southernmost beach of the southern suburb of Cronulla. When the tide goes out there are many rock pools to explore in this area. The clouds stayed mainly offshore on this day but it was was quite a cool afternoon so nobody was swimming.

Wanda Beach is the northernmost patrolled beach of the southern suburb of Cronulla. This lifesaver's tower sits behind the beach, close to Wanda Lifesavers Club, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. A group of lifesavers are keeping watch on Bate Bay, as a swimmer heads down to the beach, a kitesurfer surfs the bay and a seagull flies past.

Cronulla, ferry wharf

Cronulla ferry wharf is located on Gunnamatta Bay, in the southern suburb of Cronulla. It is serviced by Cronulla and National Park Ferry Cruises which provides regular ferry services across Port Hacking estuary between to Bundeena, on the edge of the Royal National Park.

The sunrise provided a bit of colour in the gap on the horizon for an otherwise overcast sky above Bate Bay (left) last Saturday morning. I discovered this magnificent wooden bench in the shape of a surfboard (right) that has been installed at the lookout behind Wanda Beach, close to the Green Hills sand dunes. It's a perfect surf culture design for the great surf beaches here, in the southern suburb of Cronulla.

Green Hills at Cronulla is the area north of Wanda Beach between the sand dunes and Bate Bay.

Cronulla, war memorial

The Cronulla war memorial sits in the middle of Munro Park, in the southern suburb of Cronulla. It is an obelisk with a paved sandstone base, a sandstone block mid-section and a polished granite top section. It features a 1914-1919 Honour Roll.

Cronulla, St Andrews Anglican Church

St Andrews Anglican Church is an art deco church built in 1935 in the southern suburb of Cronulla. For most Christian faiths, today is known as Holy Thursday and this week heading to Easter is known as Holy Week, although the Orthodox faiths celebrate a week later this year. The Anglican Church of Australia is the second biggest Christian denomination in Australia, which has its origins with the Church of England.

Cronulla, Shelley Beach

Shelly Beach is the southernmost beach of the southern suburb of Cronulla. The beach (top) does not feature much sand and the name is derived from the sea shells that proliferate the area. This Shelly Beach should not be confused with another Shelly Beach in the northern suburb of Manly. Shelly Pavilion (bottom) is located between the beach and Shelly Park.

The southernmost patrolled beach is simply known as Cronulla Beach but is sometimes also referred to as South Cronulla Beach. The Cronulla Lifesaving Club and Cronulla Pavilion are art-deco buildings that sit behind the beach.
