Dawes Point, Walsh Bay
Walsh Bay is on Sydney Harbour, stretching between Dawes Point and Millers Point. Pier 2 and Pier 3 of the Walsh Bay wharves, were originally part of Sydney's port facilities. The old warehouses on the wharves here have been converted into theatres, galleries, offices, hotels, apartments, restaurants, cafes and shops. This view is from a ferry on Sydney Harbour.

Dawes Point, Harbour View Hotel
The Harbour View Hotel is located on the corner of Cumberland Street and Lower Fort Street at Dawes Point. The original Harbour View was demolished to make way for the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The pylon of the bridge now stands where the Harbour View Hotel previously stood. This hotel was constructed in 1924 and became a convenient watering hole for workers constructing the Harbour Bridge. The building was heritage listed and restored in 2001 with attention to its art deco style.

Dawes Point, Ives Steps Wharf
Ives Steps Wharf is located beside Pier One at Dawes Point, looking out on Sydney Harbour. The infamous Billy Blue operated a regular passenger boat service from Dawes Point across the harbour to Blues Point from 1830. The boat dock was approximately where the Ives Steps Wharf is now, but at that time it was called Waterman's Steps. They were renamed after Alderman Isaac Ellis Ives around 1896.

Sydney Harbour Bridge, pylon
This view of the south western pylon of the Sydney Harbour Bridge at Dawes Point is from a ferry on Sydney Harbour. The pylons are 90 metres above the water level and this perspective gives an idea of how big they actually are. The four pylons and surrounds are made of concrete that is covered by grey granite, quarried near the south coast town of Moruya. The pylons were placed on each corner of the bridge, mainly for aesthetic reasons. The Sydney Harbour Bridge design had to be functional and pleasing to the eye.

Walsh Bay, bridge
This small bridge on Walsh Bay at Dawes Point, links pier one to pier two at the Walsh Bay wharves. The orange & white banners and flags are for the 2011 Sydney Writers' Festival which has been running for the past week in many of the theatres and venues around the Walsh Bay precinct.

Dawes Point, fog signal and navigation light
This fog signal and navigation light, which was built in 1948, provides warnings to shipping on Sydney Harbour. It is located at Dawes Point, close to the southern pylon of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and across Circular Quay from the Sydney Opera House.

Dawes Point, Sydney Theatre Company
Sydney Theatre on Hickson Road at Dawes Point is located opposite the Walsh Bay wharves. It seats up to 896 people and is managed by the Sydney Theatre Company, which was established in 1978. The company also manages The Wharf Theatre located nearby at piers 6/7 and theatre productions at the Sydney Opera House. Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton joined the Sydney Theatre Company as Artistic Directors at the beginning of 2008.

Dawes Point, Three Sisters
Three Sisters is a sculpture that sits in Pottinger Park in inner city suburb of Dawes Point. This sort of artwork in three pieces is known as a triptych. It was created in 1970 by Gordon Andrews, who also designed Australia's first decimal currency banknotes implemented in 1966. It is part of the Walsh Bay Sculpture Walk. This small park is on a hill behind the Walsh Bay wharves, with a backdrop of sandstone and terrace houses (left) and the Sydney Harbour Bridge (right).
