Hurstville, fire station

The former Hurstville Fire Station is located in MacMahon Street, in the southern suburb of Hurstville. It was built in 1912 in the Federation Free architectural style. It has been restored and is now part of a residential and commercial building.

Petersham, fire station

This historic building is the former Petersham fire station, located on Stanmore Road, at the corner of Albert Street. It was restored in 2003 and is now a residential building.

Drummoyne, fire station

The fire station in the inner west suburb of Drummoyne is located on Lyons Road.

Kogarah, fire station

The Kogarah Fire Station is a heritage listed building on the corner of Gray Street and Kensington Street, in the southern suburb of Kogarah. This building was built in 1907 in the Federation Arts and Crafts style. It was designed by government architect Walter L Vernon, who also designed the old Kogarah Post Office, which is now the Kogarah Community Aid and Information Centre.

Sydney Fire Station

The Sydney Fire Station in Castlereagh Street (left) was built in 1888 and was extended north in 1907 keeping to the same style. The new station with the glass facade that sits further north was completed in 2003, when the old building was restored.

Mascot fire station

Mascot Fire Station is located in Coward Street in the eastern suburb of Mascot.

Botany fire station

Botany Fire Station is located in Banksia Street, in the eastern suburb of Botany. It has a very similar architectural design to the former fire station that I featured yesterday at Arncliffe which is now used a pre-school.

Arncliffe, pre-school

This pre-school building on the corner of Forest Road and Farrar Street in the southern suburb of Arncliffe was originally the Arncliffe Fire Station, built in 1909 in the Federation architectural style. Farrar Street was then known as Gordon Street. The fire station closed in 1945 when duties were transferred to Rockdale Fire Station, which had opened in 1938. A new Arncliffe Fire Station was built in West Botany Street in 2006.

Rockdale, fire station

Rockdale Fire Station, built in 1938 in the art deco style, is located in Bay Street in the southern suburb of Rockdale. It replaced the fire station on the corner of Princes Highway and Bay Street established in 1897. This fire station closed in July 2006 when the Rockdale Fire Brigade moved to the new Arncliffe Fire Station.

Arncliffe fire station

Arncliffe Fire Station, located on West Botany Street close to the Wickham Street intersection, was built in 2006. It replaced Rockdale Fire Station, built in 1938, which itself replaced the original Arncliffe Fire Station on the corner of Forest Road and Farrar Street, built in 1909.

Mortdale fire station

Mortdale Fire Station is located on the corner of Morts Road and Cook Street, in the southern suburb of Mortdale. The fire station was built in 1915 to replace an earlier station established in 1908.
