Phillip Street, water police station

This sandstone building in Phillip Street was originally designed for the Water Police as a station and lock-up. It was designed by Alexander Dawson and built in 1858. It remained in continuous use for police purposes until 1985. It is now part of the Justice and Police Museum along with the court house next door, which I'll show tomorrow.

Marrickville, police station

This heritage listed building is the former police station in Gladstone Street, in the inner west suburb of Marrickville. This brick building with a sandstone front and slate roof was built in 1896 at a cost of 2,369 pounds. In the early days, it was known as the Marrickville Lock-Up and consisted of six cells, a padded cell, three yards, an Officer in Charge's office, a muster room and a store room. It remained in use until 1997 when a new police station opened in Despointes Street. This building is now the May Murray Neighbourhood Centre which provides community services.

The Rocks, police station

This building on the corner of George Street and Argyle Street at The Rocks became the police station in 1998. The Rocks local area command police station was a replacement for the small police station located opposite in George Street and another in Phillip Street. I took this photo a few months ago before construction work began for the extensions to The Museum of Contemporary Art next door on George Street extending behind this building to Argyle Street and leading down to Circular Quay.

Darlinghurst, police station

 The former police station in the inner city suburb of Darlinghurst is now used as a Community Health Centre. Located behind Taylor Square, it sits on the corner of Bourke Street and Forbes Street, opposite Darlinghurst Court House and the old Darlinghurst Gaol.

Rose Bay police station

Rose Bay police station is located on the corner of New South Head Road and Wunulla Road, in the eastern suburb of Rose Bay. It was originally the gatekeeper's lodge of Woollahra House, a mansion built in the nineteenth century. This building was built in 1871 and was designed in a Victorian Classical Revival style. The original octagonal structure was altered by the addition of two wings and a Spanish Mission style roof when the building became a police station in the 1930s.

Rockdale police station

The police station at Rockdale is located in King Street.
