Redfern, St Andrew's Greek Orthodox Theological College

St Andrew's Greek Orthodox Theological College is located on Cleveland Street, in the inner city suburb of Redfern. It was founded in 1986 and is the only accredited Orthodox tertiary institution of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. It is located beside the Cathedral of the Annunciation Of Our Lady Theotokos, a Greek Orthodox Church in Cleveland Street.

Redfern, Cathedral of the Annunciation Of Our Lady Theotokos

The Cathedral of the Annunciation Of Our Lady Theotokos is a Greek Orthodox Church on Cleveland Street, in the inner city suburb of Redfern. This bell tower and a corner turret are peeking above the trees that surround it. This heritage listed sandstone church was formerly St Paul's Anglican Church, built in 1848 and designed by Edmund Blacket.

Redfern, Strawberry Hills, post office

This Strawberry Hills business centre post office is located on the ground floor of the Australia Post state headquarters, in the inner city suburb of Redfern. The wall-mounted post office boxes are located outside, running along the walls of two passageways on either side of this unit. The architectural style and colour of the unit is typical of the 1980s, which is when the Prince Alfred Park Building was built. A sign of these times is the number of vacant post office boxes flagged by the red and white advertisment signs indicating which ones are available to rent.

Redfern, Strawberry Hills, post office (Theme Day: Mailbox)

These mailboxes are located outside the Strawberry Hills post office in the inner city suburb of Redfern. The red Australia Post mailbox is for standard letters and packages sent anywhere in the world, while the gold Express Post mailbox is for mail sent in special Express Post envelopes which for an additional cost are guaranteed next day delivery to certain parts of Australia.

Redfern, Glengarry Castle Hotel

Glengarry Castle Hotel is located on the corner of Lawson Street and Abercrombie Street, in the inner city suburb of Redfern. The hotel was established before 1880. This is an old photo, so the prices of beer in schooners and jugs will not be as cheap as the banners advertise. The exterior of this pub has recently been repainted to a neutral colour scheme but I prefer this style, even with the paint peeling. The red mini waiting at the traffic lights, matched the colour scheme too.

Redfern, The Redfern Bower

This sculpture is located on the corner of Regent Street and Redfern Street in the inner city suburb of Redfern. 'The Redfern Bower' was designed by Susan Mine and Greg Stonehouse in 2008. The plaque reads: This artwork transforms the mysterious courtship ritual of the bower bird into a contemporary sculpture, using items from the Redfern community to reflect and celebrate the heritage of the area.

Redfern, court house

The Redfern Court House is located in Redfern Street, in the inner city suburb of Redfern. This heritage listed sandstone building was constructed in 1898 and used as a local court until 2008. It was designed by Walter Liberty Vernon, the first New South Wales Government Architect, in the Federation Free Classical style.

Redfern, post office

The post office in the inner city suburb of Redfern is a wonderful heritage building with a magnificent clock tower and cupola. Completed in 1882, it was designed by James Barnet in the Victorian Free Classical style.

Redfern, Gadigal Information Service

The Gadigal Information Service and Koori Radio are located in this office building in the inner city suburb of Redfern. The Gadigal Information Service was established in 1993 and became an incorporated Aboriginal association to provide a community based media, arts and information service for the Indigenous community in Sydney. Koori Radio 2LND 93.7FM is Sydney's only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander full-time community radio station. The indigenous art design on the louvred exterior is based on the 1968 play The Cherry Pickers by indigenous playwright Kevin Gilbert. This was originally the site of the Black Theatre, the first Aboriginal theatre in Sydney.

Redfern Railway Station

Redfern railway station is one of the biggest junctions in Sydney, second only to Central. This station was originally called Eveleigh, when Redfern was the name used for the original Sydney terminus, located just north of this site and used until Central was opened. The 1874 entrance (left) leads to the original platforms and the 1979 building (right) leads down to the underground platforms of the Illawarra line.
