Keep Running

As I told you all in my previous post, I am currently training for my VERY FIRST Marathon! I got this grand idea years ago, after my VERY determined and inspiring mother completed her first marathon after her 50th birthday!

I will admit I am familiar with running and actually enjoy it (most times). I think my love for the sport started out early, my big claim to fame as a 5th grader other than the "Dreamer and Doer Award" (which got me in free at Disney) was my record breaking female mile!
Hold back the applause I did break my Brookshire Elementary school record for the 5th grade female mile! (i highly doubt the time was all that good, but to this day I sadly have the "lucky" t-shirt that I wore) After that I mixed and mingled in a little track and field in middle school and used cross country to stay "in-shape" for my other sports in high school. Unfortunately during that time I did a good number to my knee and thought I would never be able to run without some sort of brace.

Then came college, which all athletics kinda came to the secondary (or lower).. then came the "real world" which as we all know led me to DC. Within hours of arriving I was mesmerized by the scenery and the architecture of the city, to be able to literally run around the monuments daily is something NO one should ever take for granted...so here I am less than 3 months out

I've already had some struggles, my training started with a severe IT band issue that impacted me for about a month. I am now "somewhat" injury free and finally getting the mileage that I need for my training. I have joined an awesome team, DC Road Runners http://www.dcroadrunners.org/ which I would highly recommend (whether your training for a marathon or not) and have met incredible people throughout the experience.

I know I still have a ways to go, but hopefully with determination and lots of "energy jelly beans" I will be able to accomplish this life long goal of mine!

I of course will continue to keep you updated throughout the next months!

I will also be posting VERY soon I promise, a post all about the organization I am running for and how you can help sponsor me!!!

COUNTDOWN: 89 days!!!
