Perfect Shade of Gray

[Ran 5 miles in the sunshine]

Gray is a hard color to paint a room. Really. It either looks too white or has a maroon shade. Ick!  Frustration set in after 3 trips to the paint store, painting 3 small areas of my wall, leaving them for 2 weeks, and looking at them in all the different lights. I never liked any of the 3 shades. 

I finally made a decision.

I took all 3 tester tubs [$5 each, Sherwin Williams] and mixed them together in an old baking pan. Stirred it up REAL good and started painting. Maybe it was wrong. But it looks so right!

So the wall where the bed sits got painted. And then I ran out of paint. I knew I would. But I did not know that I would discover the PERFECT shade of gray. I guess I'm going to have to ask the Sherwin Williams man for 3 tester tubs of each of the 3 colors. Or just go to 3 different Sherwin Williams .... Hmm.

Here is what I am living with right now:

Find of the Month!

Last weekend I ran by a thrift store here in Benton. Everything was so overpriced, end tables were marked $30! Crazy! I saw this great table (already painted!) with no price tag and I ask the clerk how much she wanted for it. She proceeds to tell me a long story that she can't believe anyone would paint a solid oak table. She said since it was ruined and I will have to get it refinished to return it to its natural color, she would give it to me for $25. SOLD! Whoo hoo!

Not only do I not have to spend the money to paint it, but I can see blue undertones! I can't wait to take a sander to it! So exciting! This table is SOLID and big. It will make the perfect kitchen table for someone!

Kent picked it up for me yesterday and I haven't had chance to tackle it. When I am finished with it I will post pictures!

Fall is Here!

I LOVE fall. It is my MOST favorite time of the year. I think it is the combo of great weather, getting my baggy sweaters out, beautiful leaves and my birthday. Yep, all those things. Since this is the first year I have had a home to decorate I am learning how to decorate for the season, making it flow with my home's permanent decorations (i.e. couches, curtains, etc.) and not spending much money. So here is what I have so far.

I bought these pumkins at the Dollar Store (they are styrofoam!) for $1 with every intention of painting them. They were all very horrible colors, especially the middle one. I wonder how a hot-pink pumpkin with white stripes was ever manufactured... YUCKY! I guess that is why they are at the Dollar Store: Pink Pumpkins for the Po' Folk!

So I took out the brown stems and spray painted them with Kilz primer. They look pretty classy to me! I saw identical white pumpkins at Tuesday Morning for $5 a piece! Hmm... $15 for 3 pumpkins or $1?

The obvious choice for fall is a REAL pumpkin and so I forked over the $4 at Kroger. This one had a really great curve to it's stem.

I already had the greenery and angels, so no cost here!

Sidenote:I would have put some creepy witch or goblin next to the pumpkin, but.....I think I was brainwashed as a child into thinking that anything witch-like is evil and should NOT be brought into a God-fearing home....Thanks Mom. Also, this is fall decorating, not Halloween... of "witch" we did not celebrate either....hmmm.
