Just realized today...

that I could watch Ellen on Boxee Box when I had time. Seriously there was an episode from last week I missed and I was like where can I watch it.. and low and behold today I went to CTV on my Boxee and there it was.

I more than love Boxee! I love that I don't have to record any shows and I have access to them all via my Boxee to watch when I have time to watch them. I am loving it!

What are some of your favourite shows?

I know for me I can't wait to watch Dancing with the Stars today to see how everyone did.

The new Fall Season and Boxee

Fall brings so many different things about but one thing I really enjoy is the new TV series that start every Fall. This year I am loving it even more because I do not have to be held hostage by a typical tv schedule.

I have the Boxee Box and I can stream what shows I want when I want without having to record them. I have access to them all the time to watch when time permits. I used to have a DVR and sometimes I would miss recording the shows I enjoy because lets face it life gets busy. But with Boxee I don't have to remember to press the record button I just have to start the Boxee up and there the shows are at my finger tips.

I know many people have went to streaming tv from online but sometimes the laptop and computer screen as just way to small to watch the shows from. With the Boxee Box we stream right onto our TV all the time.

If you truly want to enjoy the fall season of TV think about investing in a Boxee Box.

New Boxee App... AOL HD

If you remember back in the day AOL used to mail out CD's for you to connect to the internet where you would get say 50 free hours. Well AOL has now come out with a Boxee App. I downloaded it to my Boxee Box last night and the picture is great on it and I just kind of looked around it a bit to see the content it is pretty good too.

I want to do some more checking to see what is available in Canada on it. Because there is always the difference on what is available in Canada to the USA and to me it matters most what is available to the Canadian viewers.

Here is what the screen looks like when you open up the application. Like I said I am going to watch it some of it for the next few days and see the content available for us here in Canada. I will definitely write up a review of this after giving this app some viewing.

Navi-X Media Browser on Boxee Box

I just got around to downloading the Navi-X Media Browser on Boxee Box. I am not sure why I didn't download it sooner. I just love it!!!!! Right now we are watching some of the TV shows streamed over it. What great quality of some old shows.

This is a definite must have for Boxee Box users. You can browse thousands of movies, tv shows and podcasts from just one browser. I am amazed at what this browser can do.

So what is Navi-X? It is a little hard to put into words so I just went to the Navi-X FAQ on their own site as it puts it best.

Navi-X is a “content aggregator” that provides access to all kinds of multimedia content, listed on a public directory of user contributed listings or playlists for playing on your TV or PC!

Simply put, Navi-X is a collection of playlists. Some of these playlists are official RSS feeds from around the web; some are user-generated playlists. All off them offer content you can stream. The point is, there’s a lot of content collected here. Take some time to look around.

How to install on Boxee Box????

From the Boxee Home Screen. Go to "Apps" to get to the App Library or My Apps. Go to "Repositories" in the left slide-out menu. Click on "Add Repository". Type in the repository's address into the URL bar : http://tinyurl.com/navixforboxee . Select "Done" and confirm that the repository has been added to the repository list on the following My Repositories screen. Now open the new Repository you added and select the app(s) you want and click "Add To My Apps". Now go back to "My Apps" and the newly added app will be added to your customized list.

Take some time and look around at it... I am still exploring this app for the boxee box and I am so glad I downloaded it... so much available in one place.

Answers to Boxee Questions

I thought I would post some answers to some of the questions from people inquiring about the Boxee Box... I know when we finally took the plunge so to speak to buy one and get rid of our cable there was not to many reviews on them for Canada. Actually very few and the netflix app for Canada was not even out yet we were still using our wii.

I will admit we kept our cable for a while when we first got the boxee just to make sure it was the right decision and then we decided to cancel cable and we even gave up watching our cable and using our PVR totally before our cable was officially gone. We were only using the boxee. We have had the Boxee since the beginning of the year after my father told us all about it at Christmas and one of our teenagers was at there house and said you should get it mom and dad.

I totally agree that in Canada there are only two tv choices and so many people are brainwashed that these two are the only two and there are not other options. I am the first to say there are other options mainly the Boxee Box. There is only the initial investment and you are done.. no more bills and at the price of cable here in Canada it really only takes 1 to 2 months to recoup the money and then you save from then on out. It has to be one of the best decisions we have made.

I am aware of all the repositories that you can get also making even more apps available.

I plan to keep updating my families experiences on the Boxee but everyone that comes over and we show them what the Boxee does ... well let's just say everyone has purchased one... even our tv repair man. (really not joking)

The opinions I wrote here on the Boxee Box are just that my opinions.

SIDE NOTE: Make sure your tv has an HDMI port... some have purchased this and can't use it because they have an older tv.

Boxee Box

We purchased the Boxee Box months ago now and cancelled our cable. With everything that this little box streams it makes no sense to have cable. It streams so many different channels and tons of content for being in Canada. The picture quality is awesome. And I just love the remote for the Boxee Box. I love that is has a full QWERTY keyboard right on the remote. How cool is that.


Boxee is a media streaming device. It streams:

• Streams thousands of freely available TV shows from various networks' websites
• Plays thousands of add-supported movies and TV episodes, which are freely available for on-demand streaming from numerous web-based providers
• Streams thousands of premium movies and TV episodes from subscription-based or pay-per-view web services, such as Netflix and Vudu
• Plays videos, songs, or pictures from an attached USB drive or from home network shares
• Plays or displays any non-DRM video, audio, and photos from anywhere on the Internet
• Supports a wide range of media formats, including...

- audio: MP3, MP4, WAV, OGG, DTS, Dolby Digital 5.1
- video: MKV, FLV, MTS/MT2S/TS, AVI, DivX MPEG4, XVid MPEG4, MOV, MP4-2, WMV9
- images: JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIF

Connections
An SD Card slot, located on the device's side, is barely visible in the photo above. The photo below shows the following I/O and power connections, which are situated on the Boxee Box's rear panel:

• HDMI port
• Optical digital audio (S/PDIF) out

• Ethernet RJ-45 connector
• 2 USB 2.0 ports
• AC power input jack

For all of you Canadian users I know one of your questions will be what Channels does Boxee stream. Here is a list of the channels that it streams: CBC, CityTV, Comedy Network, Crunchyroll, CTV, Discovery, Engadget, Food Network, Global, HGTV, History, MTV, Revision 3, Showcase, Slice, Space, Spike TV, TED, Tou TV, TVO, TvTropolis, VICE and YTV. I will say that this is the current list as of today. It changes and more keep being added for instance two days ago MTV was not on this list and it is there today.

It also has more apps that you can imagine currently for Canada it has 183 apps. Some of my personal favourites are: Netflix (this does require an $8 subscription each month), YouTube, Boxee Browser, AccuWeather, VEVO, flickr, CineTrailer, Live Station News, Radio Time, cnet tv, SPEED, ABC 7 News, CBC The National on Demand, The Onion, Khan Academy and so much more way to many to list if you ask me.

I highly recommend the boxee for both streaming online content and from a hard drive.
