Vinyl Flooring and New Paint Colors Update a Master Bedroom and Bath

Vinyl Flooring Showcased in this Master Bedroom

Last fall, I received a call from Angie, one of my customers, who was struggling with what type of flooring to place in her master bedroom, master closets and bath.  She explained that she had carpeting in both areas now but didn't want to use tile or hardwood flooring.  I suggested that she consider vinyl flooring as a solution since it can be used in a bathroom, is easy to maintain, and would unify both rooms making them look more spacious.  My customer has very good taste and decided to check out some vinyl that looked just like hardwood.   I think she was skeptical at first because she had an image in her head of the old vinyl flooring that was popular in the 70's.  Vinyl flooring has come a long way since then.  It now comes in planks which can be connected much like hardwood flooring like a floating floor.

I asked Angie if she wouldn't mind sharing some information about her floor and this was her response, "I would be honored that you would like to use my before/after in your blog. It is amazing to me every time I go in that room the transformation that occurred. I truly love every bit of it!! We used Armstrong Luxe Vinyl Plank Flooring that came in 6" planks under the name Kingston Walnut. We purchased this particular flooring because of its superior water resistance which allowed us to take the flooring into the bathroom area. The pieces are installed as a peel, place and press with each plank attaching to the plank beside it, not the floor beneath it. The floor we chose has a Lifetime Residential Warranty and a 10-year commercial. We are opting to clean the floor with 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water as opposed to cleaning with a solution. There are several cleaning solutions out there that are recommended that can be purchased at Home Depot or Lowes if you prefer."

What a difference it made!  Needless to say my customer was very happy with the results and is planning on changing out her bathroom vanities and countertops as part of her next project.

Angie also wanted a different color scheme in her bedroom.  She had purchased a new bedspread and eagerly showed it to me.  It had a cream-colored background with a beautiful delicate burgundy floral print.  She knew  from reading one of my earlier posts that it's easier to select a paint color from a leading pattern. I recommended a 2011 Sherwin-Williams featured color called Burgundy, SW 6300, for the wall behind her bed and Softer Tan, SW 6141  for the remaining walls. Angie loved the colors but took the paint samples to Benjamin Moore and had them mix the colors.  The results were beautiful.
