First up, on Saturday, 6 November, Puerta de Alcalá will be host to MTV Days – a live, open-air concert dedicated to contemporary Spanish artists and bands.

Then, on Sunday, 7 November - a.k.a. show day - global superstar Katy Perry and rock sensations Linkin Park will both perform between 18.00 and 21.45 CET. One track from each of their sets will be beamed directly into the Caja Magica during the MTV EMA live show.

Tens of thousands of music fans are expected to flood the Plaza de la Independencia and the Calle de Alcalá, which will be closed to traffic to allow fans to enjoy performances by their favourite artists against the spectacular backdrop of the Alcalá Gate.

And if you can’t make it to Madrid, don’t worry. You can watch the MTV EMAs live on MTV on 7th November starting at 21.00 CET and you can watch all of your favourite performances over and over again after the show on mtvema.com.

It’s Madrid in 2010!

http://mtvema.mtvnimages.com/2010/images/news/its_madrid.jpg?width=512&ver=10_18_2010

We’ve just announced that the 2010 MTV EMAs will take place on Sunday, 7th November at the Caja Magica in Madrid, Spain. This is the second time in the EMAs' 17-year-history that Spain has played host and the first time that we’re visiting its vibrant and thriving capital city!

Caja Magica is Spanish for ‘The Magic Box’ and we can’t wait to bring the magic of one of the world’s most prestigious music awards shows to this ultra-modern venue. Not only are we looking forward to taking part in Madrid’s booming music scene, we’re also excited to throw a big fiesta for MTV Spain – which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

The 2009 EMAs blasted through Berlin with spectacular, unforgettable performances and a celebration of the very best in music. Hard to believe, but this year’s event promises to be even bigger and better than ever. Olé!

2009 MTV EMA Show and Winners!

http://ema-2009.mtvnimages.com/images/promos/jayz_news92805143_10.jpg?width=512&ver=10_18_2010

Host Katy Perry brought her trademark energy and quirky humour to the 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards, appearing in a dazzling array of costumes inspired by burlesque and the classic movie musical set in 1930s Berlin, Cabaret. Whether in a stylish bowler hat covered in thousands of crystals, reclining in a giant cocktail glass, or soaring high above the audience on a glittering half-moon shaped swing, Katy fulfilled her hostess duties with signature flair.

Beyoncé was the major winner of the night, walking away with a total of three trophies – for Best Female, Best Song (‘Halo’) and Best Video with her ubiquitous instant classic ‘Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It).’ She also electrified with her upbeat performance of ‘Sweet Dreams,’ while her hubby Jay-Z took us all into an ‘Empire State of Mind’ and won the award for Best Urban.

The show opened with an electrifying number from Green Day, who was also the winner for Best Rock, and was followed by Katy Perry’s irreverent mash-up of the five Best Song contenders.

Rock icons U2 brought Berlin to a standstill with an awe-inspiring and moving performance beamed into the show from the city’s historic Brandenburg Gate, the site of the first-ever EMAs and a symbol of peace to people around the world. In front of 10,000 lucky music fans, the Irish rock legends performed a short set that included ‘Sunday, Bloody Sunday,’ ‘Magnificent’ and ‘One’ – the haunting anthem inspired by the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. Appropriately enough, U2 won the award for Best Live Act.

Meanwhile, Germany’s own Tokio Hotel showed that they deserved their Best Group win with their explosive performance of ‘World Behind My Wall’ which was so hot, it literally ended with the band’s instruments consumed by flames. Speaking of scorching, Colombian siren Shakira sent temperatures rising with her steamy performance of ‘Did It Again’ which featured dancers dressed only in skimpy towels, while Leona Lewis delivered a strikingly sexy performance of ‘Happy.’

In some of our other close categories, creative powerhouse Lady Gaga was honoured as Best New Act while Placebo cinched Best Alternative. Hip hop star Eminem won Best Male and Turkish hip hop/rock group maNga carried off the crown for Best European Act. Our two newest awards, Best World Stage Performance and Best Push Act, were won by Linkin Park and Pixie Lott respectively.

All in all, the 16th Annual MTV Europe Music Awards were an absolutely stunning and unforgettable event that celebrated freedom, diversity and music. Thank you, Berlin!
